Leichhardt Oval combined a holiday clinic and Junior Development Squad activities on 9th July as children from 8 years of age through to the 15 years enjoyed games and activities in the Tigers heartland. Eighty children under the age of 12 enjoyed the NRL clinic on Leichhardt’s second oval. Kicking, evasion, tackling and try scoring were all on the agenda as the youngsters showed their skills and enthusiasm. The rain couldn’t dampen the spirits of the participants, as they completed all of the Backyard League based activities.
Event organiser Bre-Allen Keighran was thrilled with the turn out and happy to see two very different events in action at the historic oval. “To have the teenagers playing North Sydney and the under 6s running around the adjoining park illustrates the variety in Development options for Tigers fans and Junior League players” commented Keighran.
On the main oval, Balmain played North Sydney in well contested games in the 13-15 years age groups. The Development Squads have been training for a month and have also played teams from Western Suburbs, South Sydney and St. George. Saturday games against the Roosters will complete the program. The local under 11-12s had also attended a clinic the day before where Curtis Sironen had dropped in to give the players some valuable tips.
Wests Tigers young gun and try scoring gem, David Nofoaluma, was surrounded by the younger children when he arrived at the clinic. After a chat with the whole group David signed autographs and found himself in many photos as the Tigers fans celebrated his successful start to his NRL career. After the autograph session and some Nandos to warm up the team, the children departed with their new football and Wests Tigers poster. David Nofoaluma can be assured that he definitely added many new fans to his growing list of Tigers supporters.
