Teacher Professional Learning

The NRL is looking at providing a range of teacher professional development activities across Australia.  In most cases these courses will be Institute of Teacher registered and also provide sport / activity specific accreditation.  Please see below courses on offer in 2013 with on line registration links.


The Backyard League course is a one day workshop on Rugby League. It focuses on the skills necesary to conduct Rugby League in game sense based sport lessons. Skills/content include: ball carrying, try scoring, evasion, kicking, safe landing; play the ball, defensive space, negotiable and non negotiable rules; small sided rugby league games and activities; intra class/school games

Modified Games Coaching Course

Modified Games Coach Suitable for K-6 teachers coaching up to 12 yrs of age.The content covers fundamental rugby league skills (Ball handling, tackling, evasion, kicking, scrummaging and play the ball) and Team Field Positions. By the end of this workshop, participants will be classified as Coaches in Training and will be qualified to coach primary school teams (full Accreditation and National Coaching Accreditation Scheme folio number will be granted after completion of practical

International Games Coaching Course

International Games Coach (Suitable for secondary school teachers coaching 13 -18 year olds) Physical preparation Performance practice Skills of rugby league – ball handling, tackling, evasion, kicking, scrummaging and the play-the-ball. Training session activities (eg warm up activities, running training, skills, backs activities, forwards activities, team positions and team play).
