What a day down at Caboolture Union Fields on the 18th October, with the NRL hosting a 9-a-side school girls challenge for High Schools. We had a great turn out with a total of 17 teams that came down and played the greatest game of all.

The schools that participated were:

Wavell Heights SHS, Central QLD, Ferny Grove SHS, Merrimac SHS, St Peter Claver College, Pink Panthers, Mitchell, Caboolture SHS, Maleny SHS, Grace College, Sandgate SHS and Barbarians (this team was a combination of rural players).

It was such a fantastic day with some very impressive skills on show throughout all divisions. Merrimac SHS were the overall winners or both 8/9’s and 10/11’s divisions. In the opens division St Peter Claver College were the outright winners on the day.

Thank you to our major sponsor – NRMA Insurance Broncos for their continuing support of this event. To keep up to date with Girls Rugby League events, please LIKE Development SEQ or Queensland Womens Rugby League Facebook page.

Caboolture Touch & Caboolture Rugby Union will host the 2013 Broncos Schoolgirl Challenge and for the first time all team nominations will go online to assist with the draw and communication to all teams involved.

The Petersen Rd Sporting Complex in Morayfield, north of Brisbane, will once again be home to the 2013 Brisbane Broncos Schoolgirl Challenge to be played on Friday October 18. Cost will be $10 per player which will include a participation medallion and a football.

Following the success of the 2011 and 2012 events, teams are expected to travel to the carnival from all over southern QLD. Already in 2013 we have seen a Gold Coast Titans Challenge (12 teams), a Broncos Sunshine Coast Challenge (23 teams) & a Cowboys Schoolgirl Challenge (26 teams). With the Toowoomba Titans Challenge & this event still to happen, we are looking at record numbers of girls choosing to play Rugby League.

3 age groups include Year 8/9, Year 10/11 & Open. Within each age group there is also 2 divisions – Development & Competitive to cater for teams that have participated before and those that are entering for the first time.

Schools wanting to register must to do so online by clicking on the link below. The teacher will register the team and send an email link directly from the registration form to the students who will participate in the team. Once all your players are registered to your team, we will generate an invoice for the school to pay prior to the event.

Over 120 girls participated in the annual Girls League Tackle Day at The Kingsway St Marys. The girls were coached through safe landing practices, correct tackling techniques and a passing drill prior to the first game to build up the confidence.

Prior to their first game Panthers stars Isaac John and Matt Moylan went through a Q&A with the girls before signing posters and taking photos to the girls delight.

All teams played 3-4 games each of non-competitive 7-a-side Rugby League.

At the conclusion of the day, all girls who participated received a FREE Woman in League footy. They also receive 2 FREE Tickets each to the Panthers v Broncos game in Round 24. All the girls will be seated in the Panthers on The Prowl Bay.

Thanks to the Panthers for sending players and giving away over 250 tickets.

The day was a huge success with all the girls stating they are coming back next

After the Broncos & Titans successfully hosted Schoolgirl Challenges in 2011 & 2012 in Brisbane & Toowoomba, it is North QLD’s time to shine!

Townsville Brothers will host the Inaugural event on Friday September 6, 2013.

The one day event will provide girls aged 11-18 the chance to play with girls and against girls in the sport they have admired from the sidelines for years. Some of the girls will have played with the boys in the junior years but most will be trying the game for the first time.

Brothers Leagues Club have generously opened their doors and welcome the move by the NRL & the Cowboys to support the fastest growing part of Rugby League.

Having been involved as a coach in the Broncos Challenge in 2011, current World Cup Champion & Mackay local, Renae Kunst is “thrilled the girls of North QLD are being given the opportunity to play Rugby League like the boys in their own stand alone carnival”.

Wide Bay to Host State Invitational for Primary School Girls

Hervey Bay in Queensland will play host to the 2013 State Invitational Girls Rugby League Carnival to be played on September 21-23.

Girls from Rockhampton down to the Gold Coast and out to west of Toowoomba will have the chance to represent their Region or District in an ALL GIRLS Rugby League event.

Last year a similar carnival saw 13 teams compete for a piece of Rugby League history to be the first District to take out the tournament. Toowoomba beat Caboolture in the Grand Final leaving all girls wanting more footy. Trials are underway across QLD for girls wanting the chance to play in the carnival.
